Computer science is more popular than engineering physics,  there is no better field than computer science and the numbers prove that.   There are almost ½ million jobs available every year. This industry is booming,  evolving by 22%. Which is higher than any engineering or stem major you can enroll in.

 For example, famous engineering Majors like mechanical or electrical engineers grow only by 8% hiring around 20,000 new graduates every year.  However, Computer science hires more than 490,000 engineers, so it is broader and more demanded 250 times than any engineering occupation.

In addition in the United States, there are only 1,600 new jobs offered every year in physics majors, so if you want to become a physicist you have a limited chance to find a job compared to computer science.

 but the good news is in engineering physics They offer a double physics and engineering degree, in other words, you can get a double degree, one in physics and another in engineering.

Which is harder engineering physics or computer science

Engineering physics is much harder than computer science, engineering physicists have to study Physics and Mathematics together while computer scientists have only math and programming-related courses to complete. 

In the engineering physics program, students study more than 80% of physics topics like quantum mechanics,  thermodynamics,  quantum physics, and so on. In addition, you have to complete all mathematics courses that include calculus and linear algebra.

In computer science you will not have to study Physics topics,  You will have only one general Physics course in your first year. In computer science, you’ll be focusing only on mathematics and how to implement it in programming like algorithms or data structure.

If you hate or struggle with Physics then engineering physics will be very difficult for you,  so in this case, taking computer science, major is better. You have to consider that it is heavy in mathematics as well as engineering physics.

Engineering physics requires you to be good at physics and math while computer science requires you only to be good at math and be interested in programming and technology.

The hardest subjects in engineering physics

Calculus is the first subject that you’ll be required to complete before the physics topics we mentioned, like thermodynamics and quantum mechanics. All these physics topics require calculus. if you struggle in calculus you would be struggling in all engineering physics courses.

In a computer science program, students are required to complete all the calculus courses the same as in an engineering physics program,  you don’t have to be good in calculus as much as in engineering physics to study algorithms or databases.

Computer science and engineering physics are both great Majors to take but if you don’t love to study Physics, engineering physics would not be suitable for you. In this case, you should study computer science if you love programming and are decently good at mathematics.

 On the other hand, if you love both physics and programming you could study them Together, An engineering physics program offers a double degree system that allows you to graduate with a double degree in the physics and engineering field you choose.

 In other words, you can become a physicist and computer scientist at the same time,  you just have to make sure that an engineering physics program offers a double major in computer science and physics. But you have to consider that this program is longer and can be taking over 5 years to complete.

But if you are looking to get hired as soon as possible, we recommend taking computer science if you are passionate about programming and like to solve practical problems. The opportunity in this domain is huge. 61% of computer science graduates find a job immediately after getting a  physics degree.
